I grew up in Michigan and attended Michigan State, where I took a photography elective on a whim. From that point on, photography has become my obsessive focus.
I participated in the last crop of students who used the department's darkroom (before a digital lab replaced it). I was fortunate to learn both analog and digital processes. I gained some great experience working for a publication as a photographer and later as the photo editor, as well as manning and maintaining a local studio.
Post-college, I moved to South Korea to work as an ESL Instructor. A one-year contract turned into 3.5 years, photographing and exploring Asia when I wasn't working.
I met my wife there (she was also a fellow teacher in South Korea), who has a media background and is a native Angeleno. So, when we decided to return to our career professions, we moved to Los Angeles at the end of 2014.
Living and working in LA has given way to a wealth of experience, like shooting model tests for multiple agencies and working on sets in the apparel industry – as a photographer, digital tech, or photo assistant. I have also had the chance to work with some great companies and hone my skills as a photo retoucher. I have sat in a few production seats – working as a photographer, digital tech, and in post-production – giving me a well-rounded perspective on getting products live and generating refined and professional photographs.
When I'm not working, I enjoy cooking new recipes at home, hunting crafty beer and good food, and riding my BMX bike.
